Why Do We Require #RegisteredNurses in #Nursing Homes? Using Longitudinal Hierarchical Linear Modeling

AIMS: To examine the relationship between #nurse staffing and quality of care of #nursinghome residents, longitudinally.
BACKGROUND: Mixed results abound on the relationship between nurse staffing and quality of care of residents in #nursing homes. Cross-sectional designs may underpin bias because the relationship between staffing and quality emerges over time, with latent unobserved variables. To offset this limitation, I used a longitudinal design in this study

School Health #NursingProgram: prevention and control of #overweight/#obesity in #adolescents

OBJECTIVE: To describe the construction process of an intervention in the form of a #NursingCare program to #Adolescents aimed at preventing and controlling #overweight/#obesity in the school environment.
METHOD: A methodological study developed through Intervention Mapping in Natal/RN, Brazil, between October of 2015 and September of 2016, with the participation of #adolescents, public school teachers and #nurses in #PrimaryHealthCare. Data sources were focus groups, interviews and an integrative review. The Collective Subject Discourse was used for analysis

Theoretical frameworks and instruments for evaluation of critical thinking in #nursingeducation

OBJECTIVE: To identify theoretical frameworks and instruments for the evaluation of critical thinking to base studies in #nursing and education.
METHOD: Integrative review, with a selection of scientific articles in Portuguese, English and Spanish, in the LILACS, SCIELO, IBECS, MEDLINE/PubMed and SCOPUS databases, using the descriptors "thought", "teaching" and "#nursing" in Portuguese and English. The search resulted in 3,147 articles, and 23 papers published between 2010 and 2015 were selected.
RESULTS: Fourteen (60.2%) studies used the Facione framework and eight (34.4%) resorted to different critical thinking assessment tools applied in #nursing and education

Willingness to Use a #NursingHome in Asian Americans

Abstract
This study explores factors associated with willingness to use a #nursing home in #Asian #Americans. Focus is given to demographic variables (age, gender, ethnicity, marital status, and education), health-related variables (chronic medical condition and self-rated health), immigration-related variables (time in the U.S. and acculturation), and family-related variables (family network and family solidarity)

#Nursing Home Chain Affiliation and Its Impact on Specialty Service Designation for #AlzheimerDisease

Abstract
Specialty care units (SCUs) in #nursinghomes (NHs) grew in popularity during the 1990s to attract residents while national policies and treatment paradigms changed. #Alzheimersdisease has consistently been the dominant form of SCU. This study explored the extent to which chain affiliation, which is common among NHs, affected SCU bed designation. Using data from the Online Survey Certification and Reporting (OSCAR) from 1996 through 2010 with 207 431 NH-year observations, we described trends and compared chain-affiliated NHs with independent NHs

Is Variation in Resident-Centered Care and Quality Performance Related to #HealthSystem Factors in Veterans Health Administration #Nursing Homes?

Abstract
The purpose of this research was to explore and compare common health system factors for 5 Community Living Centers (ie Veterans Health Administration #nursinghomes) with high performance on both resident-centered care and clinical quality and for 5 Community Living Centers (CLC) with low performance on both resident-centered care and quality. In particular, we were interested in "how" and "why" some Community Living Centers were able to deliver high levels of resident-centered care and high quality of care, whereas others did not demonstrate this ability

NursingPractice and Particulate Matter Exposure

Abstract
: Environmental factors underlie more than one-fifth of deaths and disability worldwide. Globally, both indoor and outdoor particulate matter pollution are leading risk factors for reduced quality of life and death. #Nurses are in a key position to assess particulate matter exposure and to intervene, providing population, #community, #family, and individual risk reduction and care.

Computer-based simulation: Effective tool or hindrance for undergraduate #nursing students?

BACKGROUND: Undergraduate #nursing programs continuously strive to improve student learning outcomes within the simulation lab experience. As a result, simulation labs are evaluating computer-based simulation programs to engage the millennial student learner.
OBJECTIVE: Examine undergraduate #nursing student perceptions and experiences when given a computer-based simulation program as a preparation prior to their simulated lab experience.
METHODS: A mixed method strategy was used to evaluate the data. Eighty-two senior undergraduate #nursing students voluntarily participated in the study and completed the preparation program prior to the students' simulated lab experience. Measures included a retrospective/pretest survey of past simulated experience and posttest survey with focus groups, after the first and last simulation debriefing of the semester. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected and evaluated as separate perspectives and then merged

Representation of #domesticviolence against #women: comparison among #nursing students

OBJECTIVES: To identify and compare the structure and content of representations of domestic violence against women among students in the initial and final grades of a #nursing undergraduate course.
METHODS: A qualitative study was carried out between August/November 2014, in Rio Grande/RS, with 132 #nursingstudents, 71 of the initial grades and 61 of the final grades. The data has been collected through evocations and interviews; for the treatment, the EVOC software and content analysis have been used.

Exploring the State of the Science of the #Nursing Hand-off Communication

Abstract
Miscommunication that occurs during the exchange of information between #healthcare providers accounts for approximately 80% of adverse #events in the healthcare setting. #Nurses devote 10% to 15% of the workday to the #nurse-to-nurse hand-off communication. The hand-off itself has remained virtually unchanged for the past 20 years, although the process is prone to errors. The introduction of the electronic health record and mandates to decrease errors and improve #patient outcomes has led to an influx of research on the #nurse-to-nurse hand-off communication
